Week 15 – Final Presentation Planning IIII

Let me just say, before we get started, that this better pay off because I spent SO much time on this project. I am sacrificing so much study time for this final presentation.

On a better note, I am happy that this final presentation is whatever we want, which is great so I don’t have to follow anything but only that it has to be around 5 mins.

Planning

Last week, I made a plan for what I was going to do, but wasn’t able to post it on my blog. So this week, y’all get to see it! I made it on scrap paper because my family doesn’t like to waste and I just happened to have this piece of paper lying around, so what else could I do?

Finished Slideshow, what now?

I’m going to type a script! A weakness I have is that I type scripts too long, so I have to be careful with that. This script-writing will help prepare me for my next genius hour and set the baseline. I’m going to stick to around 2-3 sentences per slide since there’s a lot of slides.

Slide 2:

Slide 2 is on my first artwork and my last artwork so I will go and take some pictures now. …And picture taken! I am doing this in real time so that is why I’m recording a lot of not-so-useful information. If you guys really want to see it now, here it is! I really love it, I made it at some event at the Garneau community centre because I lived in Garneau at the time. This was my first BIG piece that I made when I was 4. I wanted to be a paleontologist so that explains the dinosaurs. This artwork is probably the one artwork that I will actually explain in-depth with.

Week 14 – Experts, Evidence, and more

OK. I finally got all that is needed in the blog posts! Theo replied to me yesterday with a GENEROUS amount of answers to all of my questions. I wish I could’ve gone to visit her studio, but due to my bad planning and timing, this is the best I’ve done for this genius hour. I hope that maybe next time my contacting of an expert can be better planned.

Along with that, I also to a trip to the fine arts building at UofA to take some pictures of the artworks in it. Can I just say, I LOVE the fine arts building. A few weeks ago, I saw these lil’ clay blobs just sitting on a railing. I was going to take some photos of them, but they disappeared!

What a large number of artworks! Just sitting in the hall too! I’m surprised there is nothing to stop people from touching them. It’s like that put their trust completely into the people who roam the halls everyday.

Wow. I’m overall just glad that I have finished everything. I’m only 3 days away from my final presentation! Next genius hour, I will be working on time management more.

Week 14 – Final Presentation Planning III and Expert Update

Finally some progress on both the final presentation and contacting the expert! Mrs Serfozo finally got in contact with a nearby professional artist! Her name is Theodora Harasymiw and she mostly does mosaic art, but has worked with other mediums too. I kept my questions very short and random so there were a lot of room for answering and she told me that she would get the answers back by friday.

She has been using the last 2 and a half years to create a piece that symbolized the past, present and future of the Ukrainian community as seen on this news: https://edmontonjournal.com/news/local-news/rallying-the-ukrainians-together-through-imagery-edmonton-artist-creating-mosaic-signifying-hope-as-war-rains-down-on-country

Final Presentation Planning

At first, I decided to make a timeline of my overall journey, but after some thought I decided to minimalize it. But after some more thought, and some other help, I think it would be great if I posted my first every piece of art and my most recent piece. Then, it will show the difference in between it and how I improved.

I also decided to add some bunny photos from a game called, Tsuki’s Odyssey. Why? I have absolutely no idea. But the more I think about it, the more it sounds good to keep on my slideshow. Not only will it be relatable since the photos are to symbolize how you feel, but I feel that it will also add a cute aspect to the whole presentation.

This does not mean that the presentation will be very lighthearted. I still intend for it to be more serious and more helpful than happy, so I will try to include that more on the slideshow.

Week 13 – Final Presentation Planning II

Yes, I’m back everybody! I feel like I’m losing a whole lot of interest on this genius hour. I have only been using the 1 hour block at school to work on it since I just don’t feel like taking more time on it. Still no reply from Mrs. Serfozo so I’m kind of worried since we only have a week or so left. My final presentation is needing some help, I think I created the slide but haven’t put anything on it. Today my plan is to draw out a timeline for the presentation. I also want to create some points that might be useful for the presentation. I want to gather some key advice that might be useful for anybody doing a similar project.

I’ve decided to brainstorm some points here:

  • Patience – you need patience or your paintings will end up like this (show paintings) and you will feel like this (show picture)
  • Be inspired. If you aren’t inspired, you won’t be able to create. If you can’t create, then your paintings will end up like this and you will internally feel like this.
  • Dedication. If you aren’t dedicated, your paintings will end up like this, and you will internally feel like this.
  • It’s okay to fail. We all do it. (Show some failure pictures)
  • It’s okay to change ideas. Changing ideas shows that you are actively participating in your project and that you are giving yourself comments and feedback on how to make your artwork better

That’s it for now. I think I can gather a solid 5 mins speaking for each of these 5 points. I really hope that through a bit of advice from the speaker (which is, of course, me), the audience would be more engaged in the slideshow. I don’t want to present something that would feel boring to both the speaker and audience. At least I would enjoy it this way. That’s my brainstorming blog post for now, see you soon!

Week 13 – Final Presentation Planning

This week, I really want to focus on my presentation. I realized that most of the evidence (through photos and videos) are stored on my iPad, which I did not bring to school today. This means that I need to use my time right now for something else. I don’t know if I should continue making my presentation on Sutori, or if I should just use google slides. I really want to create something that looks like a timeline, but both Sutori and Google Slides don’t provide that. Since most of my materials are at home, I hope that today I can find something that is interactive that I can use for my presentation.

Update: I found that Adobe has a timeline maker, but it seems pretty limited so I will try to find others.

Update 2: After going through the internet, I have concluded that the most logical idea would be to use Google Slides.

Professional Update

Ms. Serfozo has sent my questions into the world, but the problem is that nobody has answered. She told me that she wouldn’t give up though.

Week 12 – Expert news and more

Good news and only good news this time! Yesterday, Ms. Serfozo came up to me and told me that she had emailed 3 experts in the area. Except, due to their busy schedules and other difficulties, none of them have answered yet. Ms. Serfozo, however, has contact with a lot of other art teachers across the Americas and she could upload my questions to an online forum.

I’m having some difficulty trying to decide what to do for my final presentation. It’s worth a lot of marks and it can only be 5 mins. I was thinking of some timeline-ish thing along with some tutorial videos and facts from the expert, etc. I don’t want to necessarily use google slides to create it, though. I was thinking if I could find some other free website that was specifically meant to make timelines, it would be better. I will mainly research that this week.

Update: I have found a timeline website that seems legit. It’s called Sutori and it’s meant for students and teachers. It’s a bit hard to maneuver around – I haven’t been able to find the delete button yet – but with a bit of knowledge, it might be a good way to present my presentation.

I need to keep in mind that I am not writing my notes on the screen, but more that I am uploading pictures and evidence. Just now, I forgot about that and I just realized my mistake.
