Week 1 – The Plan

What Am I Learning in the Next Few Months?

Teaming up with some other students in my grade, Ruby and Gabriel, we have decided that our plan for this first Genius Hour will be to progress on our music collaboration and music composition.

If We Achieve this Goal, what will it look like?

If we achieve this goal, it will most likely look like a full-written, well-polished sonata (as per Gabriel’s idea). I also hope that we can be able to learn and perform some other trios written by more well-known composers.

What are the Steps to Achieve this Goal?

Most likely, we will try to first create and write the sonata. Probably a movement for each person, but since we each know our own instruments and limits better, we will also change and make it to our liking and tailored to our ability to play. After that, we will have to locate a good place to be able to practice, rehearse, and to edit the song.

What Supplies will You Need?

We will definitely need our instruments, Violin, Cello and Piano or Keyboard. We will also need time suitable for all members to rehearse and polish. We will need a room that we can work in that also doesn’t affect others’ learning. Along with that we also will be using Musescore (again, Gabriel’s request) to create the music. We will also need some music stands and ourselves too.

What might you need Help with?

We may need help with collaboration and helping each other as each member in the group has very different levels of background and different strengths and weaknesses. Something that we will need help with too is trying to not argue during rehearsals, but that probably won’t work out since other quartets and trios also have that issue, which may or may not be a good thing.
